JRI Orthopaedics was established in 1969 by an orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Ronald Furlong, when he introduced the Muller cemented hip to the UK market. By 1977 JRI had expanded and opened its own manufacturing facility in the North of England in Sheffield. The heart of the British steel industry.

JRI Orthopaedics joined forces with AK Medical in 2018. AK Medical are China’s leading domestic joint replacement company and one of the world’s largest 3D-printed orthopaedic implant manufacturers.
The JRI and AK Medical brands continue to exist separately, but the combination of the two businesses has created a larger and stronger presence within the international orthopaedic sector and has resulted opportunities that will benefit millions of patients worldwide.
